Reiki (pronounced ray-kee) is a healing art which translates from the Japanese to mean Universal Life Force/Energy. It is a non-intrusive method of hands on healing that taps into the energy referred to by philosophers and martial artists as ki in Japan, chi in china, and prana in India. The practice of Reiki is based on the teachings of a Japanese monk, Dr. Mikao Usui, who taught and practiced Reiki in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. It is now taught worldwide and used by nurses, doctors, massage therapists, etc.
Reiki relieves pain, promotes restful sleep, speeds the healing process, stops bleeding, relaxes the receiver, and balances the person's charkas and aura energy. In a Reiki session, the practitioner will use laying on of hands, however, it can also be beamed or directed to the patient or client.
The Reiki energy has an intelligence and will go where it is needed, effecting all four energy bodies - physical, emotional, mental or spiritual. Reiki treats both the cause and effect. Reiki addresses both chronic and acute conditions, gently and powerfully promoting balance among all the body's systems and the normal regenerative processes of the body and mind. Reiki is used in hospitals complementing medical care and psychological counseling, is beneficial in pre and post-surgery situations, can be used to treat children, animals, pets, plants, etc. Reiki is not massage, hypnosis, or a tool for diagnosing illness, neither is it a religion.
A Reiki session may last an hour or longer. It is suggested that you wear loose clothing. You will lie on a table fully clothed, however, you can receive Reiki while sitting or in a hospital bed, through bandages or casts. Little or no pressure is applied and no oils are used. By using a series of hand positions, energy flows through the practitioner's hands. You may feel heat or cold or tingling or feel nothing, or you may even fall asleep.
It is recommended that you schedule three sessions when you first experience Reiki, however, there are times when this is not possible.
After a healing session, most people, including the practitioner, feel wonderful and continue to experience positive changes. Some people begin a physical detox process. Also there may be some emotional processing or releasing for a few days. With long-term situations, several sessions may be appropriate, perhaps on a daily basis or several times a week. As with other energy healing, it may be wise to wait three of four days for changes to manifest. For instance, you may want to schedule appointments on a weekly basis.
